The leader of this event should act as captain, coach, and diplomat. Winning is great - but it's not vital. All people (women and men) from Sr. Teens and up should be invited to play. Everyone should get a chance to play, making sure that you maintain a good mix of women and men. In 2002 the male biased comments from the Conferees pre game resulted in lots of cross-dressing that seemed to boost the quality of the play. As one teen put it “where else can I play softball with my father while we are both cross dressed”.

You should select a good umpire who knows the rule of underhand/slow pitch softball. S/he should be good natured, fair (most of the time – and when not in favor of the losing team/conferees…) and willing to accept the fact that no one likes the ump, so they may toss him/her into the brisk ocean water at the end of the game!
